Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the importance of ensuring that national development benefits everyone across the socioeconomic spectrum, not just privileged segments. Speaking at a Hi-Tea gathering with the fishing and farming communities in Muar on June 15, he stressed that tangible improvements must reach those living in rural areas and lower-income households.
The Prime Minister cautioned against overemphasising ambitious technological initiatives at the expense of everyday needs. While artificial intelligence and digital transformation projects are crucial for long-term competitiveness, the MADANI Government remains committed to enhancing the livelihoods of rural populations through direct interventions and support mechanisms.
Anwar highlighted that government bodies and agencies have a responsibility to distribute social assistance and welfare programmes efficiently to intended recipients. He called for meaningful engagement between policymakers and communities, urging Cabinet ministers and elected officials to visit grassroots areas and directly engage with residents about their challenges and requirements.
The Premier stressed that authentic governance demands courage from leaders to advocate for marginalised groups and safeguard them from exclusion as Malaysia pursues modernisation. This approach, he suggested, ensures that progress translates into concrete benefits for ordinary Malaysians rather than remaining confined to statistics and infrastructural milestones.
