Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching called on all government officials and public servants to exercise restraint when making statements to the media, emphasizing the need for courteous and appropriate language at all times. Speaking in Putrajaya on June 15, she underscored the importance of avoiding topics that could be sensitive within Malaysia's diverse society.

Teo specifically highlighted the need to steer clear of matters involving race, religion and royalty—commonly referred to as 3R issues—not merely during electoral periods but throughout the year. She stressed that this guidance applied broadly to civil servants and all sectors of society engaging in public discourse.

The Deputy Minister's remarks came amid scrutiny of Department of Community Communications director-general Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali, who has faced criticism for his choice of words in recent public communications since taking office on June 9. Teo acknowledged the situation but noted she had not yet held a personal discussion with Mohd Hisyamuddin to share her counsel directly.

Mohd Hisyamuddin assumed his position at J-KOM following the departure of Datuk Ismail Yusop. Teo delivered her comments while officiating an industry dialogue on journalism standards and digital responsibility.
