The long-running housing dispute affecting Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents has been resolved through a permanent development project announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan described the outcome as evidence of the administration's resolve to tackle citizen grievances without deferring solutions to future administrations.
Under the initiative, qualified families will each receive two housing units at no cost. The undertaking directly addresses the needs of the urban poor population residing in the area. Ramanan, who represents Sungai Buloh as Member of Parliament, stated that the Prime Minister's decision represents a commitment to swift and fair treatment for affected residents.
The groundbreaking signals the beginning of construction on what is expected to substantially improve living conditions for residents who have endured the unresolved situation for over four decades. Prior legal action initiated by resident advocates from 2018 onwards contributed to steering the matter toward this outcome.
The government has additionally allocated RM1 million through Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for upkeep of the locality across a three-year span. Ramanan acknowledged that while the project's scope may be limited in scale, its transformative effect on the lives of those affected by the prolonged wait will be significant.
Notably, the resolution proceeded without compromising conservation objectives for Taman Rimba Kiara, which had been threatened by earlier development proposals mooted for the site. The balanced approach reflects the administration's effort to reconcile the housing crisis with environmental protection concerns.
